What is The Big Dig?

The Big Dig is the day we are going to dig up the sweet potatoes! We are hoping to have 120 volunteers with shovels and muscle to dig, weigh and bag the potatoes.  If digging isn't your thing, there are plenty of other jobs to do (such as weighing, bagging, tagging, distribution, etc.), so come join us for cider, donuts, coffee, and fun! The more the merrier, and the faster we get the potatoes dug up. There is a prize for the biggest sweet potato!

Volunteer for The Big Dig

In order for us to ensure we have enough refreshments and beverages, we would like to get a rough head count of how many people will come to The Big Dig.  Just to be clear, we are not looking for donations --just extra hands to help with digging, weighing, bagging, labeling and distributing. (Thank you for your interest in our project. Check back in the summer for details.  Registration will open in August.)

What should you bring to The Big Dig?

-wear long pants and comfortable work boots, hiking shoes or sneakers.  It is going to be dirty!

-water bottle (we will have water to refill bottles)

-gardening gloves, preferably ones with high wrist coverage

-a shovel or pitchfork if you have one (put your name on yours).  If not, we will have extras and can share.

-a beach towel in case you feel like sitting on the ground. (It will be dirty and there is a risk of poison ivy)

-sunscreen
